Mattie Mae joined our family on October 8th at 10 years old. I knew we had to have Mattie when I saw her picture and heard her story. The only words on her intake form under reason are “too old”. We were told she lived with the same family her whole life.

My greatest joy in being apart of the elders society is learning who Mattie is. She is a spunky old girl. We were shocked the first time we watched her wrestle and run with our two year old dog. While she loves to play hard, she is always down to snuggle with us.

My desire to forever foster started instantly when I came in contact with Noah’s ark society and learned that there was a need. I can’t tell you why I wanted to do this, but the feeling that I needed to never went away. Everyone close to me told me it was a terrible idea, that I was only going to end up with a broken heart. And they’re definitely right that I’ll have a broken heart when that day comes. But she doesn’t deserve to finish her life in a cage.

We don’t know how long we have with Mattie, but we are soaking in every moment we get.
